Waiver Wire Wisdom: Week 22

3 min read

Congratulations if you’ve made it this far. Hopefully you’re either about to start your first playoff matchup or you’ve defeated your round 1 opponent and ready to take on the next squad. Either way, revel in your playoff situation…this is what you’ve been playing for.

For better or worse, the fantasy playoffs just happen to be during a weird time for many real-life NBA teams. Also, remember that this is not the time to show loyalty to the players that got you here. You need to watch the wire, review the lines, look for changing rotations, and make those moves before your competition. Here are some players that we think are worth monitoring or pickuing up, depending on your situation.

PATRICK BEVERLEY – LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS PG

Strengths: Boards, Steals, 3’s

Availability: 52% of Yahoo Leagues

PatBev has been on an absolute tear lately, to the tune of a #36 ranking over the last month. He’s locked in as the starter and should not be on your waiver wire. Go pick him up and enjoy some excellent out of position boards and elite steals.

MARCUS SMART – BOSTON CELTICS PG

Strengths: Steals, Assists, 3’s

Availability: 57% of Yahoo Leagues

Smart’s scoring is inconsistent but is your team could use some steals, assists, and 3’s, he’s a solid pickup. Just be sure you can handle his 41.1% shooting from the field.

AVERY BRADLEY – MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES SG

Strengths: Points, Assists, 3’s

Availability: 57% of Yahoo Leagues

Bradley has made the improbable move back into relevance in Memphis. With no competition for playing time, he should continue to be able to go out and produce like he was back in Boston. Just know that some inconsistencies are likely.

ROBIN LOPEZ – CHICAGO BULLS C

Strengths: Boards, Blocks, FG%

Availability: 57% of Yahoo Leagues

If you need boards, blocks, and efficiency from the field and line, RoLo is worth a pickup. His scoring has also taken a recent surge, which is a nice bonus. With most of the frontcourt in Chicago injured, he should keep getting those minutes.

CODY ZELLER – CHARLOTTE HORNETS C

Strengths: Points, Boards

Availability: 59% of Yahoo Leagues

Even with Kaminsky’s scoring outbursts of late, Zeller is the better real-life NBA player, and the more reliable fantasy player. Over the last month, he’s just outside of the top 75 and is an excellent 3rd big for your fantasy team.

LUKE KENNARD – DETROIT PISTONS SG

Strengths: Points, 3’s

Availability: 68% of Yahoo Leagues

The force has been with Luke of late with excellent scoring, efficiency, and 3 point shooting. He should continue to get the lion’s share of minutes at the 2 in Detroit. With 4 games in week 22, it just makes sense to pick him up if his top 24 play over the last week fits your team.

DAMYEAN DOTSON – NEW YORK KNICKS SG

Strengths: Points, Boards, Assists, 3’s

Availability: 84% of Leagues

It’s so hard to trust the rotation in New York, but Dotson has been putting up numbers, so let’s just go with that for now. He’s shown that when given the opportunity he can produce. Enjoy what he can do but drop him at the first inkling of another random rotation change.

FRANK JACKSON – NEW ORLEANS PELICANS PG

Strengths: Points, 3’s

Availability: 96% of Yahoo Leagues

Frank should be one of the main beneficiaries of the injury to Jrue. While he hasn’t shown much beyond scoring and 3’s, if you’re looking this deep into your waivers, Brunson is in the kind of position for your fantasy squad where you’re just swinging for the fences.

JALEN BRUNSON – DALLAS MAVS PG

Strengths: Points, Assists, 3’s

Availability: 96% of Yahoo Leagues

It can’t be easy for a traditional point guard to be playing next to Luka Doncic, but Brunson is in there and getting minutes. He can provide some of those deep league stats that warrants a pickup.
